July 13 2013

Dad was Admitted to Washington regional medical center on Tuesday, July 9.
Primary reason was urinary tract infection.
He also has been having high blood pressure issues and has been given all kind of test.
Yesterday afternoon had suffered a stroke.
Main affects from the stroke are communication problems. He understands everything we say and he understands that he has problems responding.
He seems to be able to respond to questions and comments as long as he is engaged, but has trouble initiating a sentence with the correct words or being able to form words correctly.
We are currently waiting on results from MRI to see the extent of the damage.
He is handling the frustration really well. And we hope to have a good outcome from treatment.
As usual his concern is for mom.
Dad is in Washington regional medical center you can go to their website and send him an email if you like. Or you can send him a card at Washington regional medical center Fayetteville AR 72703 room 4308.
If you choose to call him it may be a one sided conversation or at least difficult.
Prayer appreciate.
 God is good.

Long time since I have posted here.
Over all, Mom and Dad are doing well.
There have been a couple of glitches here and there, but for the most part they are still living independently and doing well. They are still sharp and pithy. Dad spends his time reading and calling people who don't expect a call from him, nevertheless they are blessed when they get the call.
Mom still goes shopping and cooks their meals and keeps Dad on track.
They remind each other about who called when and what they said about this that and the other.
Their wisdom, love and grace still amaze.
They continue to worry over family issues, large and small, not about themselves.
God's grace is always the solution and prayer is the injection to heal each situation.
They are Great Great Grands again as my niece gave birth to Elise Anne Perez last week.
Grief is always tugging at their sleeve in one way or another...while they are praying for others, they need your prayer as they pray for those who they ache for.

God is so Good

Fathers Day, was terrific for all of us Fathers.
Father, Mother, God is all of these...How blessed have I been...East from West Blest!

Tuesday March 8

I was eating a pickle and cheese sandwich this afternoon and it reminded me of some of Dad's culinary delights (pineapple sandwich ain't bad either). I thought I needed to update you on the goin's ons around the Jamie and Beverly household.

Last time we were in the midst of a record breaking snowstorm.
To paraphrase Dad "I'll be dog gone, it's snowing!"

It took a couple of days but we managed to go visit and they made it through it just fine.

In recent days Mom and Dad's in home help has changed again, or should I say has been pared down again. The lady that has been coming for the last few weeks has found a full time position and so Mom and Dad are making do with only 1 or 2 days a week with extra help. They are managing but it is not to my liking.

Mom had a scare a couple of weeks ago when she tripped over Dad's walker and took another tumble. She went down "easy" and no harm was done. Fortunately Bill was there and she was able to get her up and still managed to keep her appointment with the doctor that day.

Phone calls, visits, reading, and AETN keep them busy most of the time along with trying to keep up with siblings, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Dad has been tracking our son Nathan during the last 2 weeks while he has been in the Middle East on a work assignment. Nate has been good to call them and keep the anxiety level at a minimum during this time of unrest.

I took Mom to transact some high finance the other day and we stopped by the Zion homestead to check things out and let her pick up a few things.

While we were there I gathered some books from Dad's library. There are always treasures tucked inside each book that he has read. Notes in the margins or on some obscure scrap of paper that he has jotted down notes on, birth announcements, funeral service programs, greeting cards of one kind or another. I want to share part of one that was tucked inside "The Confessions of St. Augustine". I assume he was reading it while convalescing in the hospital in Cullman Alabama after his emergency gall bladder surgery. It is a microcosm of his discipleship and my family's education by example.
Note the "To Do List" especially.
(It may be too small to read, try to click on the picture and it should enlarge. If you click on it twice it should enlarge again...I hope you can read it in his hand writing, if not let me know and I will type it out.)

How blessed to raised and mentored by a simple servant.

God is good!

Tuesday February 1

Mom and Dad are hunkered down for the arctic blast.
Help came yesterday and Mom made it to the grocery store.
They were lucky this morning and did not lose power.
Hope all of us can make through the next 2 days and nites, then we can warm up into the balmy 20s.
Hope all of you are warm and well!
God is good!

Thursday September 30 2010

I took Mom to the Sleep Dr yesterday and got a good report on her Apnea.
Her baseline test was 43 episodes of Apnea for the sleep period during the test (I am sure it was not 8 hours). With the CPAP she is down to 4.3 episodes during an 8 hour sleep period. Her O2 level is great and her blood pressure was perfect. She is walking very cautiously and taking it slow and easy. Her face is still bruised but she has not been in any pain to speak of with her elbow and wrist. She has admitted that she needs more help during the day so they have increased the hours of assistance they are getting each day. She is still sharp as a tack and we accomplished some "high finance bidness" at the bank on the way home.

Dad is doing well even though he thinks he gained too much weight since the last time he was at the oncologist...3 lbs. I guess he is nostalgic about being at 160 lbs. after his bypass. I told him to do a few more reps with his weights and elastic bands...he does his exercise routine religiously but I told him he was not breaking a sweat. He is still drinking almost a half gallon of water each day which brings his sodium level down not to mention having to go to the toidy "upteen gillion" times a day.

Mom mentioned that we needed to start thinking about what they would be wearing to Rachel's wedding. I don't think his bright blue shorts and polo shirt will work. Maybe the khaki shorts....

It is hard to believe that in 3 weeks and 2 daze my baby girl is going to change our lives forever...sigh.

God is good!
