Tuesday March 8

I was eating a pickle and cheese sandwich this afternoon and it reminded me of some of Dad's culinary delights (pineapple sandwich ain't bad either). I thought I needed to update you on the goin's ons around the Jamie and Beverly household.

Last time we were in the midst of a record breaking snowstorm.
To paraphrase Dad "I'll be dog gone, it's snowing!"

It took a couple of days but we managed to go visit and they made it through it just fine.

In recent days Mom and Dad's in home help has changed again, or should I say has been pared down again. The lady that has been coming for the last few weeks has found a full time position and so Mom and Dad are making do with only 1 or 2 days a week with extra help. They are managing but it is not to my liking.

Mom had a scare a couple of weeks ago when she tripped over Dad's walker and took another tumble. She went down "easy" and no harm was done. Fortunately Bill was there and she was able to get her up and still managed to keep her appointment with the doctor that day.

Phone calls, visits, reading, and AETN keep them busy most of the time along with trying to keep up with siblings, kids, grandkids and great grandkids. Dad has been tracking our son Nathan during the last 2 weeks while he has been in the Middle East on a work assignment. Nate has been good to call them and keep the anxiety level at a minimum during this time of unrest.

I took Mom to transact some high finance the other day and we stopped by the Zion homestead to check things out and let her pick up a few things.

While we were there I gathered some books from Dad's library. There are always treasures tucked inside each book that he has read. Notes in the margins or on some obscure scrap of paper that he has jotted down notes on, birth announcements, funeral service programs, greeting cards of one kind or another. I want to share part of one that was tucked inside "The Confessions of St. Augustine". I assume he was reading it while convalescing in the hospital in Cullman Alabama after his emergency gall bladder surgery. It is a microcosm of his discipleship and my family's education by example.
Note the "To Do List" especially.
(It may be too small to read, try to click on the picture and it should enlarge. If you click on it twice it should enlarge again...I hope you can read it in his hand writing, if not let me know and I will type it out.)

How blessed to raised and mentored by a simple servant.

God is good!

Tuesday February 1

Mom and Dad are hunkered down for the arctic blast.
Help came yesterday and Mom made it to the grocery store.
They were lucky this morning and did not lose power.
Hope all of us can make through the next 2 days and nites, then we can warm up into the balmy 20s.
Hope all of you are warm and well!
God is good!

Happy 88th Birthday Dad!
Two years ago the doctors didn't think you would make it through the night.
God is good!
